The passionate fan culture that fuels league nights
Walk into Vale Arena on a Friday night and you hear it before you see it: the drums in Block C, the chants rolling down from the balcony, the gasp that travels around all four sides when a shooter lets fly from the edge of the circle. Marlowe Vale has always drawn a crowd, but in the last three seasons the supporters club has turned league nights into something closer to a festival.
A wall of noise, built by volunteers
It started with twelve people, a hand-painted banner and a borrowed drum. Today more than two hundred members coordinate displays, away-day travel and the junior guard of honour that walks every team onto court. Newcomers are handed a song sheet at the door — by the second quarter, they know every word.
“The crowd genuinely lifts us in the final five minutes,” says one senior co-captain. “When legs are gone, the noise carries you through the last three centre passes.” Coaches now plan for it: home fixtures are scheduled for Friday nights precisely because the atmosphere is worth four or five goals.
What makes a league night special
- Supporters club displays before first centre pass
- Junior guard of honour and half-time shooting contests
- Away-day coaches to every fixture in the county
- Player meet-and-greets after the final whistle
If you have never been, start with opening night on 18 October — tickets are on sale now, and the first fifty juniors through the gate get a free club scarf.
